A young rider, 18 year old 2* eventer based out of Ocala, FL.

She took to riding in her 5th year of school back home in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada out of a small eventing barn. Since her first riding lesson, she has been a go-getter, sets big goals and never stopped at what she wants or believes in.

Her first experience with the upper levels of eventing was when she decided to expand her knowledge and love for competing in becoming working student. In 2014 at a young age of 15, while completing online school and with her parents remaining in Canada, she went to work for Olympian and well-known 4* rider, Hawley Bennett out of Temecula, FL.

After several months, she returned home for the summer and started her first semester of grade 11 in the fall. NAJYRC had always been a goal for Shelby ever since she had heard about it around the age of 14.

Learning that Kyle Carter was the coach for the Area 3 NAJYRC team, she embarked on a new journey to the East Coast to train with Kyle to complete a 1* with the hopes of competing at NAJYRC 2015. At this time, Shelby had bought a new 15.3hh mare from Daniel Clasing out of Maryland. She trained and completed a 1* on both Obie, and her new horse, Crimson.

Shelby went on to finish NAJYRC on her dressage score and took home the individual bronze medal for Canada. She also achieved many USEA Blue Ribbon awards, broke the top 50 ranked riders in the US, Heels Down Magazine Eventing Breakout Rider of the Year and also the USEA year end Top Jr Prelim Rider of the Year award.

This year Shelby was one of very few to complete the Carolina International 2* without xc penalties and has had a successful season at the Intermediate/2* level as well as success on her new young horse, Excellence or Lenny, who is ready to move up to Prelim. This year she plans to attend NAJYRC again to compete in the 2* as well as move up to advanced in the fall of 2016 or early spring of 2017 and to complete a 1* on her new young horse, Lenny.

Long term goals, she aspires to be on the 2020 Tokyo Olympic team for Canada as well as to complete a 4* in the next couple years on her mare Crimson. Shelby has had success at a young age and is willing to do whatever it takes to continue this success in order to fulfill her dream of riding amongst the best in the world at the upper levels.

She would like to thank her coach, Kyle, and especially her parents for supporting and believing her dreams. Shelby would also like to thank her sponsors for also believing her from the start and supporting her current and future endeavors.
